Exciting new year for the
online General Aviation community
2003 is likely to be a pivotal year for online General Aviation. With
Internet connectivity widespread, and broadband and wireless access becoming
increasingly common, we believe that this is the year where aviators,
schools and aircraft syndicates will look to online services to support
their activities in a pervasive and cost-effective manner. With all of
our services either free or charged only on a per use basis,
we hope to be your online GA partner of choice to help you spend
more time flying and less time organising your flying!
We
want to thank you personally for your support since our relaunch in
September. Our website is becoming ever more popular, and we are
particularly pleased to welcome our new members from France, The
Netherlands and New Zealand to name but three countries. Despite the
atrocious weather in Europe during January, we were happy to record
bumper new log entries in our database last month.
We have a lot of plans for 2003, and by working with you - our members
- we will be delivering a wide range of exciting new services during
the course of this year.
Flying Schools
We offer an
exciting set of services to flying schools to reduce your administrative
workload. By providing online booking sheets for multiple aircraft,
schools, instructors and students can remain perfectly in synch. Flying
Schools can really benefit through this increased sharing of information
with their instructors and students, and help maximise aircraft utilisation.
By introducing all your instructors and students to e-logbooks,
you can also accumulate free credits that you can re-distribute back
to your students to encourage more frequent flying.
And don't worry about cancellations! On each booking
we give an 80% credit refund for cancelled flights. And for schools
we offer last minute SMS text messaging to all members of your group
to ensure that your aircraft are not sitting idle due to late cancellations.
If you are not aware of all our group services, then
please login
and join the Trial
Flighters, where you can test out all
of our group facilities. Alternatively, login, set up your own
group and explore the features privately.
New weather service
We appreciate
how important weather services are to pilots, and so we have teamed
up with weatherweb.net
to offer WeatherLIVE! telephone forecasts for the UK. Forecasts are specific to any UK location
and look from 30 mins to 10 days ahead. The service operates 8am
to 6pm 365 days a year, calls cost £1.50 per minute and average
in length 2 to 3 mins. Call 09061 991 189 from any UK telephone
or mobile.
We are planning to expand our web-based weather services
in the near future, and so if you have a specific request, please
let us know.
New members
We have set up
a group especially for new members so that you can chat with other
members and explore the bulletin board and aircraft booking
features. Login and then
apply
here to join (we accept everyone!).
And for existing members, don't forget that we award
10 free credits to you for every new member who signs up following
your recommendation, just as soon as they purchase their first credits.
Website upgrades
We have been busy
improving the website - see what you think!
We have re-designed
the homepage to
provide you with more content, and now you can login directly from
there.
The logbooks graphs
have been upgraded to provide pilots with more statistics reporting.
For example, we now show pie charts of the types of aircraft flown,
and the distribution of aerodromes visited for each pilot.
Your online logbook
can now be displayed with a user-selectable number of entries per
page. This is useful if you want to match up your online and hard
copy logbooks. Having a variable number of entries per
page is very useful when adding logbook entries to your web log - especially
if you haven't completed every logbook page in its entirety.
What you want
We are always
exceedingly keen to hear from our members, and to understand the
needs of our customers. If you see something missing from e-logbooks,
please let us know, and
we'll add it to our TO DO list!
Recently, James asked us for a currency summary, describing
his landings statistics over the last 30 and 90 days. We responded -
check it out by hovering over pilots names on the Community page.
If you like this feature,
and have other ideas for currency enhancements, please let us know.
